April 1, 2008 State v. Shawn J. Joly (State Court of Cherokee County) Mrs. Corvelli was able to have all charges against Mr. Joly thrown out based on illegal search and seizure. Our firm filed a Motion to Suppress illegally seized evidence which was granted by the Court resulting in a win for our client. January 15, 2008 State v. Cedric Riggins (Superior Court of Dekalb County) Mr. West succeeded in having the State dismiss all charges against Mr. Riggins who was charged with Kidnapping, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault and several other offenses. Mr. Riggins was facing a life sentence in the case but as a result of our work, he was not convicted of a single offense. September 24, 2007 State v. Samuel Johnson (State Court of Fayette County) Mr. West succeeded in having Mr. Johnson's DUI charges reduced to misdemeanor reckless driving in case where blood level was almost twice legal limit on alcosensor. This saved Mr. Johnson's driver's license and kept him from facing jail time. This is the 2nd DUI case that our law firm has had reduced from a DUI to a reckless driving charges for Mr. Johnson in the last two years. August 24, 2007 United States v. Brent Tibbetts, (United States District Court, Northern District of Georgia) Mr. Tibbetts, who had pled guilty to failing to reveal the fraudulent theft of over $4 million in customer monies from his business was sentenced in federal court to 16 months in federal custody with a recommendation that he serve his time in the federal prison camp (a low-level incarceration facility made famous for celebrity residents such as Martha Stewart). This sentence was actually less than the federal sentencing guidelines mandated for his offense. In contrast, his co-defendant received a sentence of 6 1/2 years in federal prison. His co-defendant was not represented by Mr. West. July 9, 2007 State v. Alphonso Thomas (Superior Court of Cobb County) Mr. West was able to achieve a dismissal of all charges in this multi-defendant armed robbery case on the eve of trial. As a result, Mr. Thomas who was facing a minimum of ten years in prison if convicted was exonerated of all charges in the case. February 8, 2007 State v. Jakubczyk (State Court of Cobb County) Mrs. Corvelli successfully argues that police exceeded the scope of a search warrant executed on the Defendant's home by opening a container they did not have the right to open and retrieving marijuana from within. Court grants motion to suppress the evidence in the case thereby preventing the State from introducing the marijuana evidence at any trial. As a result, State will be unable to obtain a conviction against the Defendant. |
